Autopsy proves torture of maid
LAHORE:The postmortem of a 14-year-old maid revealed that she used to be tortured by their employers.
The accused couple, Dr Umaira and her husband Junaid, is in police custody. According to the autopsy, the victim's body also had also old marks of torture. The couple had allegedly killed the girl four days back and misled the police by claiming that the maid, Sana, fell down the stairs and died of a head injury.
search operations: Lahore Police Operations Wing has issued its annual report regarding search and sweep operations conducted under the National Action Plan in the City. According to the report, Lahore police conducted 6,464 search operations in different areas of the City. As many as 2632 hotels, 1021 guesthouses, 170 hostels, 3,166 shops, 153 factories, 162 madaras, 25 bus terminals, 165 educational institutions and 606 churches were checked during the search operations.
Police verified 172,316 houses, 65,661 tenants and 575,448 persons. Police took action against 3,412 accused persons under the National Action Plan over their incomplete documentation. Police registered 37 cases against illegal weapons and arrested the accused.
Fifty-one FIRs of narcotics and 20 of gambling cases were registered. Under the Tenant Act, 1,283 FIRs were registered. Fifteen targeted offenders were also arrested.
Traffic restored: Traffic on the Bund Road at Shahdara and Babu Sabu was restored after a successful dialogue between the goods and public transport owners and the Punjab government.
Police blocked the main GT Road at Shahdara by placing containers so that the rally of transport owners could not move forward. Subsequently, the participants in the rally found no alternative way to reach the destination they had fixed for protest. However, at least nine-hour-long traffic jam made the journey of peaceful citizens very difficult. The ambulances, the busses carrying wedding guests, cars and rickshaws were stuck in the gridlock traffic.
Ring Road: Commissioner Lahore Division and Chairperson Lahore Ring Road Authority (LRRA) Saif Anjum has said Southern Loop 3 (SL3) of LRRA will help improve traffic in the City.
He said 8-km SL3 would be constructed from Raiwind Road, Adda Plot to Multan Road. He was briefed that work had been awarded to NLC and formal construction agreement will be made on January 12 with NLC as per requirement of procedure.
LRRA Chairperson Saif Anjum said that quality of work, standards of construction and timelines would be observed regularly and as per SOPs. He said a massive afforestation and tree plantation campaign would be launched on RR.
Saif Anjum took the additional charge of LRRA on January 1. Chairperson LRRA was briefed that SL3 comprising of 10 lanes, 17-km drain, three subways and 7 bridges would be consisted of two interchanges. He chaired first meeting in head office of LRRA and all directors participated in the meeting. He was also briefed about proposed SL4.
