HARIPUR: The Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) and Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) have named own candidates for the district and tehsil chairmanship.
Despite reports of rifts, the PTI emerged as a leading party in the district. It has announced the name of Adil Islam for the district nazim and Agha Shabbir for district naib nazim positions. The PML-N has fielded Javed Khan for district nazim slot and Chaudhry Dad Khan for naib nazim.
At tehsil level, the PTI has nominated Syed Ahsan Shah for the tehsil chairmanship and Tariq Khan for deputy chairmanship whereas PML-N has fielded Sajjad Khan for tehsil nazim and Raja Ayaz for naib nazim. Rumours about creation of a forward bloc by dissidents in the PTI have also been reported in the district.
During the local government elections, the PTI managed to grab 25 seats at district level while several independent candidates have also shown their support to the party. At tehsil level, independent candidates secured 18 seats and the PTI could win 10 seats. However, several independents later joined the PTI.
