Like most third world countries, Pakistan is also afflicted by gender discrimination and moral and cultural regulations that have no sound basis. From honour killings among the poor to shaming and slandering among the rich, women bear the brunt of these indefensible practices. This emotional and mental abuse is the reason why women in our country have high rates of anxiety and depression. It restricts their ability to realize their potential. Many see them as mere household items.
Although laws are in place to protect the rights of women, society needs to change its collective mindset and attitude towards women if we are to foster true harmony and equality. It would ensure a better, prosperous and a more secure future for our future generations.
