PESHAWAR: The fog that had engulfed the provincial capital and parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on Monday cleared gradually on Tuesday as the sun sneaked through the haze.

The fog was dense during the night and early morning on Tuesday. However, the sun even though weak helped clear away the fog. The feeble rays of the sun were still welcome as otherwise a cool breeze was blowing and keeping the weather quite cold.

Unlike Monday when life was affected due to the fog and freezing cold weather, the situation was nearly normal on Tuesday as vehicles in large numbers returned to the roads and shoppers crowded the bazaars.

Still the wave of biting cold persisted on Tuesday. The forecast about cloudy skies and chances of rain in the coming days was prompting the people to brace for more extreme cold weather. As someone commented, the real winter had finally arrived as January iseven otherwise a very cold month.

Meanwhile, flight operations resumed at the Bacha Khan International Airport on Tuesday after cancellation of many flights in and out of Peshawar on Monday due to poor visibility. Passengers stranded in Peshawar due to cancellation of their flights heaved a sigh of relief.

The provincial government has twice extended the winter vacations of the educational institutions due to the severe cold weather. The low gas pressure, which happens every winter here and more so during mornings and evenings, was also adding to the problems facing households.
