Rain, snowfall likely next week

ISLAMABAD: Fresh system of rainfall and heavy snowfall in hilly areas has entered the country to increase the intensity of cold.

Three to four spells of heavy rainfall and heavy snowfall in hilly areas are expected in the month of January 2020, Pakistan Metrological Department (PMD) predicted on Tuesday.

According to the PMD, widespread rain is expected throughout the country including Punjab, Sindh, Balochistan and KP from January 5 to January 8, 2020. It is expected heavy rainfall in several parts of Balochistan and KP from Wednesday (today) while rainy spell will start here in Islamabad and Rawalpindi from January 2, PMD predicted. Snowfall in the hilly areas including Murree, Ayubia, Nathia Gali is also expected from Thursday.

Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Lahore and Gujranwala divisions may also receive hail from January 5 to January 8, the Met Department predicted. It is feared that the weather conditions may trigger landslides in Malakand, Hazara, Gilgit-Baltistan and Kashmir in coming days.

Met Officer Islamabad (Meteorologist) Muhammad Dawood Khan told ‘The News’ that intensity of cold will further increase in coming days. A fresh system of rainfall has entered the country. Three to four rainfall spell are expected in the month of January, he predicted.
