Pakistan President Dr Arif Alvi has asked the relevant authorities to ensure the eradication of the menace of drug use at educational institutions across Sindh.

During a meeting with Sindh Governor Imran Ismail at the Governor House on Tuesday, he stressed that it is high time that the authorities take action against the anti-social elements responsible for the spread of the illegal substances among the students of the province.

The two held a detailed discussion on the anti-narcotics campaign being carried out across the province as part of the efforts being made to counter the spread of drugs at educational institutions.

Besides discussing the anti-drugs drive in general, they also talked about the campaign being expanded in order to save the young men and women of the country from the menace of narcotics.

President Alvi and Governor Ismail reiterated their resolve to use whatever resources available to the government and the state that are required to counter the spread of narcotics in society.

Dr Alvi said on the occasion that an anti-narcotics campaign should be conducted across the country on a consistent basis. He also stressed the need for the concerned parents to play their respective roles in saving their children from the curse of narcotics.

The governor briefed the president about the functioning of a special cell established at the Citizens-Police Liaison Committee (CPLC) office to counter the menace of such illegal substances across the province.

Ismail informed Dr Alvi that the CPLC and the Anti-Narcotics Force (ANF) have joined forces to conduct an awareness campaign at educational institutions so that students know about the damage that is caused by using drugs.

The president appreciated the efforts of the Sindh governor to counter the drug trade and the use of illegal substances across the province, saying that the same vision should be replicated everywhere in Pakistan to rid the country of this menace.

Earlier in the day, the Sindh governor and the Pakistan president went together to witness the ceremony of the ANF that was held in Karachi to destroy a large quantity of confiscated drugs and other illegal substances.

Meanwhile, the governor also met Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf leaders Khurrum Sher Zaman and Ashraf Qureshi. The meeting discussed the federal funds being provided to upgrade the civic facilities available to the people of the city and the general situation of the province.

The meeting also expressed concern over Monday’s incident of the collapse of a building in the Ranchore Line area of the city. The governor said that everybody should join hands to help restore the lives of the victims of the incident.

He said the government has made the goal of safeguarding the lives of the people its foremost priority. He urged the lawmakers to actively participate in the process of legislation being carried out in the assemblies of the country for the welfare of the masses.

Ismail said that all the elected representatives should actively work for resolving the problems of the citizens of their respective constituencies, adding that effective legislation will help resolve the issues of the masses of the country.
