Turkey has unveiled a prototype of an electric car produced 100 percent indigenously by its engineers and technicians. Commercial production is slated for 2022, while exports to other European countries have also been proposed. The moot point is: why can’t Pakistan emulate Turkey’s example and produce its own indigenously built electric vehicle? At least, Pakistan can collaborate with Turkey for joint production, transfer of technology and setting up a plant in Pakistan as well, thereby saving billions of dollars in oil imports. We have brotherly relations with Turkey, and President Recep Tayyip Erdogan is our dear friend. One is sure he would be happy to assist Pakistan and both nations can join hands in research and innovation.
It should be noted that economic integration and technological collaboration between Muslim countries was one of the high points of the recent KL summit that Pakistan chose not to attend.
