OKARA: A man died due to jubilant firing during a wedding function at Fatehpur village on Monday. The marriage function was going on when accused Iqbal and Abrar allegedly opened fire in the air. In the meantime, a bullet hit wedding guest Nasir Ali. As a result, he was seriously injured. He was shifted to the DHQ Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.
WOMAN APPOINTED SHO: A woman police sub-inspector has been appointed first time as SHO in the Chorasta Mian Khan police station.
Munazza Muhammad Ali, a woman sub-inspector, has been appointed as SHO by District Police Officer (DPO) Umar Saeed Malik.
The woman had joined the police service as a constable in 2011 and later appointed as SI after passing Punjab Public Service examination in 2014. Now she has been elevated as SHO. She has done Masters in Urdu and belongs to Chak 20/1A. Her husband Manzoor Ahmad is also a police constable at Gogera police station.
AC VISITS FRUIT, VEGETABLE MARKET: On the directions of Deputy Commissioner Usman Ali, Assistant Commissioner Syeda Amina on Monday visited the Fruit and Vegetable Market here.
The AC checked the rates and standard of the items being sold in the market and talked with the customers who visited the market for shopping.
The AC also visited the platforms provided for farmers to sell their produce directly to the public. She also checked stalls, carts and shops to confirm the rates and standard of fruits and vegetables in the market. After talking with customers, the AC issued orders regarding resolution of their complaints.
PASSES AWAY: Senior educationist Master Muhammad Sharif, 79, passed away after a protracted illness here on Monday. He was a English teacher who served for more than 40 years in the Punjab Education Dept at school level.
Scores of people from different walks of life attended his funeral, including former provincial minister Muhammad Ashraf Khan Sohna, Dr Zaeemuddin Abid, Ch Habibul Haq and Qaisar Nawaz.
