PESHAWAR: Senior politician and former provincial minister Farid Khan Toofan rejoined the Awami National Party (ANP) on Saturday.
He made the announcement during his visit to Wali Bagh, the home of the late Wali Khan family in Charsadda district, where he met the party’s central President Asfandyar Wali Khan and provincial President Aimal Wali Khan.
A press release said that the formal joining of the veteran politician in the ANP would be announced at a press conference. Speaking on the occasion, Aimal Wali Khan said that his party was the true representative of Pakhtuns, adding, ANP would welcome every Pakhtun into its fold.
He said that his party was fighting for the rights of Pakhtuns at all levels and would continue its efforts to this end. The ANP leader said that Farid Toofan’s decision to rejoin the ANP proved that the Pakhtuns trusted the party.
He said that Pakhtuns need to be united to secure their rights. He warned the incumbent PTI government of the repercussions in case amendments were carried out in the Constitution without due process and consultation.
He also criticised the government for relying on ordinances for running the country. Farid Toofan, who belongs to Karak district, had quit the ANP to join the PPP. He also spent time in the PTI.
