HARIPUR: A proclaimed offender was killed in an encounter with the cops of Beer Police Station here on Friday.
District Police Officer (DPO) Zahidullah Jan said that Nasir Khan, son of Mahroof Khan of Soha village, had been wanted to Haripur and Mansehra police since 2014 in two cases and was declared proclaimed offender by a local court. He said the PO was also involved in other criminal activities but remained on the run from police.
The DPO said that the PO escaped after murdering a watchman, Miskeen Shah, in the Haripur city on December 18, 2017. He was also charged in the FIR registered in the City Police Station for attacking and injuring constables Ehtesham Ali Shah and Tayyab Khan on August 18, 2014, when they were on patrol in the limits of City Police Station.
He said on Friday morning, a contingent of Beer Police Station headed by SHO Khalidur Rehman received a tip-off about Nasir's presence in his house in the Soha village. And when the police raided the home the accused, along with his two unknown accomplices, opened fire on the police; however, they escaped unhurt.
Nasir Khan was killed on the spot in the exchanged of fire while his two accomplices escaped from the scene.
The police recovered a pistol and AK 47 rifle from the house of Nasir Khan and registered the case against him and his two accomplices under sections 324, 353, 15AA/34 of the PPC.
