DERA GHAZI KHAN: The District Education Department on Wednesday issued show-cause notices to the teachers for protesting against the merger of a school into the Danish school.
The teachers got show-cause notices from the office of Executive District Education Officer Saleem Shahzad in which they had been asked to submit written reply why they protested and chanted slogans against the government. The teachers who got show-cause notices included Irshad Hussain, Abdul Aziz, Qazi Abdul Hafeez and Saadullah. Earlier, on the directions of the Punjab government, one of the oldest educational institution of DG Khan city, earlier named as Government Boys High School No 1, has recently been merged into the Danish School and its new name is Centre of Excellence Boys High School No 1. At this, the students as well as the teachers protested against the decision a couple of days ago. The protestors said that such decisions would affect poor and needy students who would not be able to get admission in the school. Meanwhile, Office-bearer of the local chapter Teachers Union Khalid Mustafa said that the teachers’ protest was peaceful and the teachers’ community met the DCO and the EDO Education to settle the issue. He said that the issuance of show-cause notices was unjustified. On the other hand, the official of the Education Department said that as per service rules of the Punjab government, teachers were not allowed to organise protests.
