Reports reveal that there are hundreds of government buildings, both at the federal and provincial levels, which are lying idle. Even in the federal capital, Islamabad, there are figured out dozens of unused or partly used buildings. Many of these buildings are managed by the Pakistan Public Works Department.
Taxpayers own these buildings and, even vacant, they're expensive. According to official records, dozens of these properties have not been used since their construction. The question is: why does the government own so many big buildings that it doesn't use? It is noticed that bureaucratic hurdles and myopic technocratic approach always limit the judicious utilization of all these beautifully built buildings. It is advisable that the government should devise a comprehensive plan for proper utilization of all these buildings lying idle, and the remaining un-used buildings should be sold out or leased out generate revenue and also slash spending and improve organizational efficiency.
