KARACHI: The domestic hockey calendar for 2020 will be finalised by the end of this year or the start of new year.
Pakistan Hockey Federation (PHF) is drafting the new calendar these days which is in the final stages and will be completed in a few days, a source involved in the process told ‘The News’ on Monday.
The Pakistan Hockey League (PHL), which has not been materialised for more than two years owing to poor planning, is not included in the domestic calendar as of now. Marketing issues have also badly hampered the league from happening.
However, sources confirmed that the PHF was keen to stage the league next year. Moreover, few new tournaments at junior level have been added to the calendar as the prime focus of the federation is to promote the sport at grassroots level. “Junior events are of paramount importance and investing on them will help us find the real talent that will eventually make its way into the national side,” a source added.
