KARACHI: A booth of First Women Bank Ltd at the Government Girls Degree College was inaugurated on Tuesday by the wife of Lt Gen Nasir Khan Janjua, Corps Commander Southern Command in Quetta.
Addressing the ceremony she said that FWBL is exposing the younger generation to the formal banking system which is necessary for their financial independence. She urged FWBL and the college management to arrange orientation sessions for the students and encourage them to open accounts.
Tahira Raza, president of FWBL, said that it was a good opportunity to serve the needs of 5,000 students and approximately 400 employees at their doorstep, which is one of FWBL’s key objectives.
Development economist Kaiser Bengali said that people question the need for a separate bank for women. He said that if Pakistan has separate women’s seats in parliament to ensure women’s participation, a women’s bank should be no surprise.
