Production decline
This refers to the letter, ‘About the slump’ (Dec 17) by Kulsoom A Majeed in response to my letter ‘Car prices’ (Dec 13). I may correct the learned writer’s statement that actual deletion is 20-25 percent. The actual deletion is >60 percent as minus engine and a few electronic parts, the OEMs are producing cars with locally developed parts and they have made heavy investments and taken considerable time in developing these vendors to bring quality standards up to the mark.
Local car producers have been successfully producing quality cars from 2001 onwards. India is five times bigger than Pakistan and they are ahead in technology than us. As such, comparison with India is not justified. There is always room for improvement but there are other factors that result in considerable decline in cars production where government intervention is a must to address the issue.
