CHITRAL: A man, who was arrested in connection with the murder of a shopkeeper, confessed his crime before a local judge here. District Police Officer (DPO) Abbas Majeed Khan Marwat said that the police arrested an accused, Khan Bahadur, a resident of Danin, last week in connection with the murder of Kareem Jan, a shopkeeper in Chitral who belonged to Upper Dir district. He said this was one of the first instances in Chitral district in which modern technology of IMEI and GPS was used in tracing the murderer. The Technical Wing of Chitral Police obtained the IMEI of mobile that was in the use of the deceased Kareem Jan. The mobile had been switched off since July 16, 2015. He said that after three weeks, the police found the mobile switched on again with a new SIM. The police obtained the GPS coordinates of the location in which the SIM was being used. A team of Police led by SHO Chitral Sultan Baig raided the location and arrested Khan Bahadur. The DPO said that the accused in his preliminary statement to the police confessed to killing Kareem Jan, adding that he led the police to recover a dagger used in the murder which had been hidden in a nearby jungle. He said that the accused confessed to throwing the body into the Chitral River which was later recovered near border area in Arandu since the flow of water was very fast and it had taken the body there. “Upon his production before a judge, the accused confessed to killing Kareem Jan with a dagger. The post-mortem of the body was also conducted which corroborated the account of Kareem Jan narrated in front of the judge”, the official said.
