MIANWALI/CHINIOT: Twelve persons were killed and scores of others injured in two fatal accidents in Mianwali and Chiniot on Sunday.
In the first accident, seven members of the same family drowned when their van fell into the Peelan canal, Mianwali. One member has been rescued and search for other six continues. According to rescue sources, a recklessly-driven van fell into the Peelan canal main lower branch while overtaking a car.
The van was carrying seven members of the same family, including women and children. Rescue sources added that one person has been rescued while search for other six continues. The victims were on their way back home after getting medical treatment to their patient in Peelan hospital.
While in another road accident, at least six people lost their lives while 11 others were left seriously wounded as an over-speeding dumper ploughed into a passenger van in Chiniot. The collision took place at Faisalabad Road near a bridge where a dumper hit the passenger van moving to Faisalabad, killing at least six people on the spot, including women and children, whereas, 11 others were wounded.
The dead bodies and injured persons have been shifted to a nearby hospital. Earlier on Saturday, at least four persons including a woman and a child were killed in a road accident at Chowk Sarwar Shaheed.
The incident occurred near Hussain Shah bus stop, where a speeding passenger bus crushed a motorcycle and a rickshaw. As a result, four persons lost their lives on the spot. Getting the information, rescue teams reached the spot and moved the bodies to a nearby medical facility for legal formalities.
