MULTAN: Activists of the Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) on Saturday staged a demonstration against the Pakistan Electronic Media Regularity Authority (Pemra) for banning the party’s chief Altaf Hussain’s live and recorded speeches on television.
The MQM activists gathered in front of the Multan Press Club and chanted slogans against the Pemra. The protestors, carrying banners and placards, were led by ex-MPA Mirza Furqan Mughal. The protesters said that the ban on Altaf Hussain was against the law and constitution. All the roads leading to the Multan Press Club were blocked from all sides. Speaking on the occasion, MQM leader Mirza Furqan Mughal strongly condemned the ban on Altaf Hussain’s speeches on TV. He alleged that a conspiracy was being hatched against the MQM and some forces were trying to eliminate the party. He said that the MQM was playing its political role with the support of the masses and it would never be eliminated from the hearts of the people.
