KARACHI: The Standing Committee on Commerce of the Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce and Industry on Friday held a meeting with the Federal Minister for Ports and Shipping for a discussion on matters related to import/export and industry, according to a press release from the FPCCI.
The meeting with the minister, Kamran Micheal,, was held at Federation House.
There was a presentation on the China Overseas Ports Holding Company Pakistan (the concession holders of Gwadar Port).
Michael said that 500 vacant industrial plots at Port Qasim will be cancelled because the motive behind the allotment was to set up industries, and investment in real estate.
All encroachments around the ports are being removed, he said.
Moreover on Supreme Court Orders, 350 employees of the Port Qasim Authority and the Karachi Port Trust have been terminated because they had fake degrees, which rendered their appointments illegal.
The minister said the government is introducing a biometric attendance system to guard against ghost employees entering the ports. The meeting was chaired by FPCCI president Mian Muhammad Adrees.
