Mathematics has a vital role in the development of science and technology around the world and its innovations are benefiting people. Our academia should focus on nurturing social values among students besides imparting education in their particular fields. Pakistan being one of the important countries in global affairs cannot compromise on latest advancement in science and technology, and Mathematics being backbone of science, Pakistan cannot afford to lag behind in this field. Our scholars and researchers in Mathematics should remain in touch with international mathematicians; our universities can facilitate such interactions by holding seminars, workshops, conferences and promoting exchange programmes.
This was stated by Higher Education Commission Chairman Professor Dr. Mukhtar Ahmed who was invited as chief guest during the inaugural session of 16th International Pure Mathematics Conference 2015.
The 16th International Pure Mathematics Conference 2015 (16th IPMC 2015) jointly organised by the Islamia University of Bahawalpur, Higher Education Commission and Preston University began here on Friday. Other partner organisations include Pakistan Mathematical Society, Advanced Institute of Mathematical Sciences and Algebra Forum.
The theme of this three day conference is Algebra, Geometry and Analysis and is being participated by 65 speakers, 140 participants, nine keynote speakers and six foreign delegates from South Africa, Saudi Arabia, Bangladesh, China, Nigeria, Iran and Ethiopia. International Pure Mathematics Conference has become the only forum in Pakistan bringing renowned and eminent mathematicians from around the world on one platform providing unique opportunity for researchers and scholars to share their latest ideas in this field.
The HEC chairman praised Conference Convener Professor Dr Qaiser Mushtaq and his team for sustained efforts and creating the forum of International Pure Mathematics Conference in generating a true mathematical culture in mathematics. He assured his full support in organizing such events on large scale.
Earlier, Professor Dr. Qaiser Mushtaq, vice chancellor of the Islamia University of Bahawalpur and president of the Pakistan Mathematical Society, in his welcome address, briefed the participants about historical background, contribution and significance of thematic mathematical conference series (IPMCs) being held since 2000.He thanked Professor Dr Mukhtar Ahmed, chairman HEC, Professor Dr Abdul Basit, chancellor, Preston University and participating organizations for their support in making the event a great success. Dr Allah Wadhayo Baluch of Preston University also spoke on the occasion. It is pertinent to mention here that 15th International Pure Mathematics Conference 2014 was postponed due to unavoidable circumstances and is being held jointly with 16th IPMC 2015. After the inaugural session, technical sessions were held in which experts highlighted various areas of Mathematics.
