Quarterfinal line-up decided in National Junior Hockey
LAHORE: The quarterfinals line-up was decided in the ongoing 36th National Junior Hockey Championship after the completion of league stage here on Tuesday.
All the four quarter-final matches will be played after a rest day. In the last seven league matches played on the sixth day, the teams of Mardi Petroleum, Sui Southern Gas Company, Army B, Punjab B, Customs, Army A and Wapda defeated their rival teams.
In the first match at the National Hockey Stadium Lahore, Mardi Petroleum defeated KP A by six goals. Efraz, Abdul Rahman, Aqeel Ahmed, Anis, Amir Sattar and Amir Farooq scored one goal each for the winning team. In the second match, Sui Southern Gas Company (SSGC) defeated Punjab A 3-0. Rizwan Ali scored two goals while Abuzer scored one.
In the third match, Army B team won 3-1 against Punjab C. From Army B, Tanveer scored two goals while Mustafa scored one goal while Punjab C’s M Zeeshan scored the only goal. The fourth match was played between Punjab B and Sindh A. Punjab B team won the match by three goals against two. The winning team’s Bilal, Sehir and Waqar Abbas scored one goal each. Jawad Hussain and Abdul Qadir scored one goal each for Sindh. In the fifth match Customs beat Punjab D by six points. Hamza, Saim Butt, Sami, Bilal, Wasim and Shahbaz scored one goal each for Customs. The sixth match saw an exciting competition between the Army A and Port Qasim teams in which the Army team won 3-2. The winning team’s goal-scorers were Mehran Ahmed, Danish Shah and M Usman while Port Qasim’s Abdul Rehman scored both goals. The last match of the day was played between the teams of Wapda and Sindh B, in which the Wapda team won by 2-0. Zain Ali and Ali Bahadur scored one goal each for Wapda.
In the first quarterfinal Sui Southern Gas will take on Port Qasim whereas the second quarterfinal will be between Wapda and Navy A. Army A and Punjab A will compete in the third quarterfinals while in the fourth quarterfinal Mardi Petroleum will be pitted against Customs.
