Karachi An anti-terrorism court (ATC) on Thursday accepted a charge-sheet presented against Saad Aziz, one of the perpetrators of the Safoora bus carnage; non-bailable arrest warrants against two of his absconding accomplices, Ali Rehman and Umar were also issued. The record also included charges of the accused involvement in the murder of renowned social activist and director PeaceNiche, T2f, Sabeen Mahmud as well as an attempt to murder Jinnah Medical and Dental College vice principal, Dr Debra Lobo besides carrying out several other bomb attacks and target killings. The two absconding accomplices of Aziz were also alleged to have killed a policeman, Waqar Hashmi, in 2014 within the remit of the New Karachi police station. Having graduated from one of the prestigious universities of Karachi, the Institute of Business Administration, Aziz’s arrest along with that of four other accused had brought into question the extent to which terrorist networks had permeated in educational institutions. Initially arrested for his involvement in the Safoora bus massacre, which claimed the lives of 45 people of the Ismaili community as gunmen opened fire on a bus they were travelling in near Safoora Goth, on May 13, he was later claimed to have confessed committing some 25 other criminal activities. The accused also known by his alias Tin Tin was arrested along with the alleged mastermind of the attack Tahir Hussain Minhas alias Saeen and other accomplices Asadur Rehman alias Malik, Hafiz Nasir and Azhar Ishrat – the latter three also students of influential academic institutions. The accused was also identified as the killer of an assistant sub inspector (ASI) Arshad Tanoli, in 2014.
