Award-winning Pashto poet passes away

BANNU: Famed Pashto folk poet and winner of President’s Pride of Performance Award, Ghazi Sayal, passed away on Wednesday after a brief illness. He was 75.
His funeral prayer will be offered today (Thursday) at 3 pm at his native Akhundan Mandan village.
He has been suffering from chest complications and was admitted to Lady Reading Hospital, Peshawar. Sayal was born in Bannu in 1933. He was the author of several books of poetry and prose.
A recipient of numerous awards, including President`s Pride of Performance Award, Sayal also composed hundreds of hit folk songs for radio and TV besides writing scripts, storylines and dialogues for around 50 super-hit Pashto movies.
