Make more jobs

November 28, 2019

So far the PTI government is stumbling in their efforts to create more jobs. Without a rebound in production and investments, jobs are not being created to boost the economy. Research studies on job creation have highlighted a few important factors for job creation. Building roads, bridges and other public works is a source of the creation of many new jobs. Besides the CPEC projects, the government should speed up the work on public projects. In addition, by rationalising the money supply, liquidity should be increased so as to give banks more money to lend consumers on cheaper credit rates to enable them to borrow and spend more, allowing businesses to expand to meet increased demand; increased purchasing power would help companies hire more workers.

Furthermore, there is a need to encourage stability and predictability in the tax system. Broad bases with low rates and minimising exemptions should be the hallmark of the taxation policy. A balance among different types of taxes should be maintained. It should be ensured that business taxes are directed toward public investments that stimulate growth and job creation in the private sector. Job creation is a key element for the prosperity of our country.
