Women voters’ registration in Mansehra increases
MANSEHRA: The registration of women voters has increased in the last 10 months in the district.
“It is highly encouraging that because of the effective sensitisation sessions with the community, particularly women the registration of both sexes equalised during last 10 months in the district,” Zeeshan Khan, the district election commissioner, told reporters on Tuesday. He said during the corresponding period a total of 18924 votes including 9435 of the females were registered with election commission in the district.
“In our voters’ lists published last year there was a shortfall of as many as 115,140 women votes compared to men but this gape is being bridged because of effective social mobilisation campaign underway in collaboration with non-governmental organisations,” Zeeshan Khan said.
The district election commissioner said a total of 947,076 voters were registered with election commission in the district last year but that number was increased to 966,000 to date. “We have been moving national database and registration authority’s vehicles to far-off and inaccessible villages and localities in the district where women are registered,” he said. He said that district election commission had established as many as 349 display centres across the district where voters’ lists would be made public from the first week of December for the period of 30 days.
“We have been ensuring maximum registration of leftover women voters as in forthcoming local governments or general elections if female polled votes are less than of 10 pe rcent of total polled votes in any constituency the elections would be declared annulled there.
