Islamabad The Children’s Global Network carried out a three-day capacity building workshop to train 100 members of the mohalla committees under the project ‘ILMPOSSIBLE-Take A Child to School’, says a press release. The project was aimed at enrolling 135,000 out of school children in government schools of Pakistan and to retain at least 80 per cent among them in schools so that they can complete their primary cycle. The mohalla committee, comprised a group of influential individuals who are able to advocate for education reforms, facilitate volunteers and other education stakeholders to identify the reasons behind out of school children and high dropout areas. Capacity Building of the mohalla committees was carried out by Children’s Global Network by making them aware of Article 25 A implementation and Article 19A. ILMPOSSIBLE-Take A Child to School Project Manager Naveed Mussarat initiated a session on roles and responsibilities of Mohalla Committees. She stated that these committees play a crucial role in solving school related issues, finding reasons for out of school children, increasing access of involved personnel of government officials and local influential in enrolling these children. In essence, mohalla committees play an important part in tackling education crisis in Pakistan District Education Officer Sialkot Aman-Ullah, Zubair Anwan, Dr. Usman Siddique, Hamidullah, Ms. Mehnaz Aziz, Ms. Faiza Inayat and Pervaz Asghar also spoke on the occasion. Participants appreciated the efforts of the British Council, CGN-P and implementing partners in their areas. They shared that through 'ILMPOSSIBLE- Take A Child To School programme they get the awareness and realisation of their role as to how to work for their own children and their schools. They said that they have been the part of mohalla committees at their own after realising their responsibility in the community.
