Kidnapper killed, robbers arrested in Mardan actions: official
MARDAN: The police on Monday claimed to have killed a kidnapper during an operation and also busted a robbers’ gang, besides arresting a dacoit in separate incidents.
Briefing the media, District Police Officer (DPO) Mohammad Sajjad Khan stated that that acting on a tip-off, a police party comprising SHO Lundkhwar Salam Khan, SHO Shergarh Daud and ASP Waqar Azeem raided a house at Juwar village where a proclaimed offender identified as Yousaf, alias Asif, along with his other two accomplices was present. He added that an exchange of fire took place between the police and the proclaimed offender, during which Yousaf died while his other two accomplices managed to escape. The police recovered a 9mm pistol and cartridges from the venue and shifted the dead body to hospital for autopsy. Mohammad Sajjad Khan said the proclaimed offender had a long criminal history, wanted by Lundkhwar police in 8 FIRs under 7-ATA, including 302, 324, 512, 149, 148, 382/34, 353, 365-A. He added that the mentioned proclaimed offender had become a symbol of terror in the area. Also, in the Hoti Police Station limits, a police party headed by SHO Muqadam Khan arrested three members of a robbers’ gang.He said they also recovered 300 Saudi riyals, 3000 rupees, and 2 tolas gold ornaments from the arrestees, identified as Hazrat Rehman, Jehanzeb and Sabz Ali, residents of Mousam Koroona.
Separately, the DPO said, Rustam Police Station personnel arrested an alleged robber, Zeeshan, and recovered 10 tolas gold ornaments, and Rs250,000 cash from him.Seminar asks Muslim states to help resolve Kashmir issue
Speakers at a seminar said on Monday that Muslim countries should play a role in the resolution of the Kashmir issue as around one million Indian troops have sieged 8 million unarmed civilians in the occupied valley. The seminar titled “Kashmir Dispute and Need of Unity among Muslim Countries’’ was organised by the Departments of Islamic Studies and Urdu at Women’s University, Mardan. Speaking as the chief guest, Assistant Professor Dr Rashida Parveen said: “Apart from the silence on the part of United Nations and the western world, the division within Muslim bloc is the major cause behind unresolved disputes such as of Kashmir and Palestine.”
