Walk sensitises importance of trees

FAISALABAD: A walk was held to sensitize the importance of trees to mark the National Tree Plantation Day at the University of Agriculture Faisalabad on Tuesday.
The participants were told that forests in Pakistan are decreasing with the passage of time and it was an alarming situation on the whole.
The walk was aimed at addressing the issue of deforestation and associated environmental problems. On the occasion, Faculty of Agriculture Dean Prof Dr Muhammad Arshad said that with ever-increasing population and urbanization, more and more trees are being cut away to provide space for expanding population needs. He stressed upon the need to give the awareness among the masses about the importance of the trees. The tress not only save the earth from the different climatic devastation but also provide the oxygen which is base for the life.
Dean Faculty of Food and Home Sciences Prof Dr Masood Sadiq Butt said that in the modern era, the world was facing numerous climatic challenges including floods, drought and water scarcity issues, etc. The deforestation is aggravating the issues. Keeping in view, it was essential to increase the forest net in the country. Prof Dr Rashid Ahmad Khan said that UAF has planted 7,000 trees in a year. He said that all-out efforts were being taken to raise the awareness. He said that a plant needs proper care in the first year of its life. Dr Muhammad Arshad also planted a tree the National Institute of Food Science and Technology to mark the day.
