This refers to the article, 'The Nawaz Sharif effect' (November 20) by Mosharraf Zaidi. The writer has prudently described the rise and fall of Nawaz Sharif from the seat of power. He has given a comprehensive account of his achievements during his three tenures as prime minister of Pakistan. It is incorrect to suggest that Nawaz fired Gen Jahangir Karamat; in fact it was the general who tendered his resignation to satisfy the ego of the prime minister, and it was wise decision on the part of the COAS. Somehow or the other, Nawaz always had doubts about his own appointed chiefs. In fact, he has been the only prime minister who always wished to establish civil supremacy.
Nawaz like Bhutto shall continue to be remembered by Pakistanis. It is time for future rulers to learn from the failures and successes of Nawaz Sharif’s life as a politician. However, no one learns lesson from past history
