Few nations in the world discriminate against their citizens the way we do with those who remain loyal to their land and refuse to pledge allegiance to any country other than Pakistan. These are the people who are not swayed by better financial or welfare prospects offered by the western world. Unfortunately, our ruling elite consider such people fit only for voting them into assemblies – and not suitable to hold the important public offices that directly deal with the lives of those who have chosen to live and die in Pakistan.
It seems that though we have gained independence, in essence the minds of our ruling elite are still beholden to their colonial masters. In this sense we have not come too far from the days of the East India Company. How else can the government explain its preference for dual nationality holders while making appointments to state-owned enterprises and key financial regulatory institutions over local people despite them being better qualified. Their only shortcoming is that they hold only the Pakistani nationality. Are successive governments resorting to this discrimination in order to facilitate massive flight of capital? We need a JIT for this madness as well.
