ISLAMABAD: Director General Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) Lieutenant General Faiz Hameed had an important meeting with Prime Minister Imran Khan at the Prime Minister Office (PMO) on Tuesday.
The subjects came under discussion in the meetings have not been elaborated in the 25 words release but it is understood that political situation prevailing in the country did figure in the discussions between the prime minister and spymaster. The uncertainty prevailing on the national horizon with regard to working of different institutions was believed to be the part of discussion since they have direct bearing on the national cohesion. Lieutenant General Faiz Hameed was given the charge of the country’s top spy agency in a surprise reshuffle in the Army in June, which saw his predecessor, Lieutenant General Asim Munir, being posted out as Corps Commander Gujranwala after possibly the shortest stint in the director general’s office. The spymaster had in June met Prime Minister Imran Khan after assuming the charge of his office.
While no details from Tuesday’s meeting were officially released, it comes a day after - amid speculation that the civil-military relationship is under strain at the moment - the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) chief said that the government and the Army are “on the same page” and meetings between the prime minister and army chief are necessary for the country’s progress.
The situation in Indian Occupied Kashmir (IOK) where Indian occupying forces have enhanced their brutalities and developments in Afghanistan are directly linked with the security of Pakistan as the press release maintained that “Matters pertaining to national security were discussed during the meeting.”
The DG ISI called on the prime minister after a week of meeting between the prime minister and Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Qamar Javed Bajwa.
