PESHAWAR: Inspector General of Police (IGP) Nasir Khan Durrani has awarded prizes to police officials of Dera Ismail Khan district for killing a commander of the Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan in an encounter late Sunday night.
The TTP commander Amir Jan alias Malang had a head money of Rs1.5 million and was wanted by the police in 23 terrorism cases.
A team of Daraban Police Station, DI Khan was on routine patrol in an armoured personnel carrier (APC) near the Daraban Hospital at midnight when they heard an explosion.
They rushed to the spot and noticed that unknown terrorists attacked the security forces personnel camped at the Government Degree College, Daraban. The terrorists also fired shots on the building with heavy weapons and later started firing at the police party too.
The policemen also retaliated and exchange of fire continued for about one hour.
A constable of Elite Force, Amir Nawaz, and a militant were killed in the shoot-out. The slain militant was identified as Amir Jan alias Malang, a commander of TTP Gandapur group wanted by the local police in 23 terrorism cases.
