SUKKUR: The ZA Bhutto Mehran University of Engineering Jamshoro, Khairpur Campus, due to lack of senior faculty members, is facing a huge decline in admissions.
The News has learnt from sources that 50 percent seats in petroleum and natural gas and 20 percent seats in mechanical, electrical and civil technology were still vacant. According to the sources, there were a total of 280 seats allocated in aforementioned faculties for admission, while just 200 students had enrolled for admission in the previous session. However, the campus announced a fresh admission schedule from 16th August, 2015.
Sources said that while the campus was running in deficit, there was a twofold increase in the number of employees than the enrolled students. However, despite this, the PVC is going to issue appointment letters to 40 more people.
The News has learnt that the PVC was acting upon the instructions of a political figure, and aside from the names, the list also carried grades for the people to be appointed.
Sources said that the Khairpur Campus, instead of focusing on the quality of education, has turned into a factory for providing jobs. And this was why there was a huge decline in the number of students seeking admission to the institute.
Engineer Ghulam Serwar Kandhar, PVC MUET ZA Bhutto, Khairpur Campus, told The News that all regular as well as self finance seats were filled. He said that there were 45 regular, and 15 self finance seats in the PG technology. Rejecting the claims, he said that there was not any senior faculty member issue.
