BERLIN: Olympic discuss champion Robert Harting revealed on Tuesday that he will miss the World Championships starting in Beijing on August 20.
The reigning three-time word champion is coming back from a serious knee injury but said he doesn’t want to risk his chances of defending his Games crown in Rio next year by rushing his return.
“There was a strong temptation and and I always hoped (he would take part in Beijing) but if I do my ligament again, I can cross off Rio,” Harting told media in a Berlin suburb. The 30-year-old, who is also the two-time reigning European champion, tore his cruciate knee ligament last September.
