Ten Pakistan cueists move into knockout phase

KARACHI: As many as 10 Pakistani cueists forced their way into the knockout phase of the 6-Reds World Men’s Snooker championship 2015 whose preliminary round matches concluded here at Hotel Movenpick on Sunday.
Mohammad Sajjad, Shahram Changezi, Babar Masih, Mohammad Asif, Shahid Aftab, Majid Ali, Asjad Iqbal and Khurram Agha have qualified directly for the round of 32, while Asif Toba and Mohammad Bilal reached the round of 64.
The only four home cueists eliminated in the preliminary rounds were Sohail Shahzad, Abdul Rahim, Mohammad Fahim and Hunain Aamir.
In the reseeding for the knockout phase, Dharminder Lilly of India was placed at the top, while Pakistan’s Sajjad, Shahram and Babar were declared second, third and fifth, respectively.
Fung Kwok Wai of Hong Kong, Mohamed Shehab of the United Arab Emirates (UAE), Yan Bingtao of China and Chi Wai Au of Hong Kong were seeded fourth, sixth, seventh and eighth, respectively, for the knockout rounds.
Defending champion Pankaj Advani of India, who had suffered a shock defeat in his first outing of the competition, continued his winning streak to move into the round of 32.
The top 22 cueists of the preliminary rounds have been granted direct entry into the round of 32, while the next 20 will be playing the round of 64.
A total of 76 cueists from 18 countries, divided in 14 groups, had entered preliminary rounds of the World Men’s competition, being held under the auspices of the International Billiards & Snooker Federation (IBSF).
