HARIPUR: An under-treatment prisoner escaped from the District Headquarters Hospital where he had been admitted, The News learnt here on Sunday. The city police said that Muhammad Riaz, a resident of Sahiwal, had been convicted in a drug smuggling case and sentenced to life imprisonment. He was languishing in Haripur Central Prison for the last so many years. On August 5, he was taken to DHQ Hospital Haripur for medical treatment where the doctors admitted him due to his serious illness. However, on Sunday he went to the washroom by dodging the policemen and escaped from there. The police launched a search operation. However, they were unable to trace him till filing of this report. A case was registered against the police officials present on duty and the prisoner.
