KARACHI: Pakistan Hockey Federation (PHF) has recognised the new variation of field hockey — beach hockey — and has asked its affiliated units to recognise it as well.
The game of beach hockey started in the summer of 2004 on the beach of Scheveingen, Holland just the way it was with beach soccer and beach volleyball.
The International Beach Hockey Federation (IBHF) has been formed and the FIH, PHF’s parent body has recognised during the FIH Executive Board’s meeting in Antwerp last month.
The IBHF is fully responsible to have its tournaments for both men and women under the FIH banner.
“The PHF has directed all its affiliated units to show their support for beach hockey and formally recognize this new and exciting variant of the sport,” PHF secretary Rana Mujahid said.
