KARACHI: After losing to Thailand 3-2 in their opener on Friday, Pakistan kept their hopes alive when they routed Oman 3-0 in their Group C match of the Asian Men’s Seniors Volleyball championship at the Azadi Sports Complex in Tehran on Saturday.
Oman, who were crushed by South Korea 3-0 in their first outing the other day, gave tough time to Pakistan. The score remained 25-23, 25-21 and 25-19.
Skipper Naseer and Muneer were outstanding. Ismail Khan alongwith Mohammad Usman played a major role in defence and reception.
The win took Pakistan to four points.
Pakistan will now face strong South Korea in their do-or-die showdown on Sunday (today). An upset win against Korea can help Pakistan reach quarter-finals. In the other game of the group, South Korea defeated Thailand 3-2. Chinese Taipei beat Kuwait 3-0 in Group A. Last edition’s runners-up Australia overwhelmed Turkmenistan 3-0.
