Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) secretary-general Liaqat Baloch has said the construction of new dams is indispensible to control floods and generate cheap electricity.
Addressing the participants of JI workers at Mansoora on Wednesday, Baloch stressed starting of work on major dams including Bhasha and Dasu and construction of new dams.
Liaqat Baloch said a huge amount of rainwater was causing destruction in the country and wasting after falling into sea while the authorities concerned remained indifferent. He said water was a requisite for agriculture while electricity was essential for industry and power shortage was ruining agriculture and industry.
He said every page of the Judicial Commission’s report was speaking that elections were not transparent. He said though all the parties had accepted the Judicial Commission’s report, the differences among them remained there. All parties should join hands for bringing about electoral reforms, he added.
He urged the parties to unite against corruption, target killings in Karachi and terrorism. He said across the board accountability was essential to weed out corruption and misuse of public money. He said people wanted to see logical end of operation in Karachi. He said there were good people in MQM who were being exploited in the name of Mohajir.
Adviser: Adviser on Health Khawaja Salman Rafique visited the villages affected due to floodwater of River Satluj in border area of Ganda Singh, district Kasur.
According to a handout issued on Wednesday, he also inspected the relief camps set up at Mastike, Chanda Singh and other villages. DCO Kasur Adnan Arshad Olakh and DPO Rai Babar also accompanied him.
