KARACHI: Pakistan were off to an impressive start when they routed Venezuela 3-0 in their opener of the division three Group B football game of the Special Olympics at Los Angelis on Tuesday.
Shaharyar emerged as the top performer with a fine double, while Ali Zar hit one that provided Pakistan full points.
As per information received here, Pakistan dominated the game right from the start and could have scored more goals but the rivals’ keeper thwarted many of their efforts.
In swimming Pakistan’s Farah finished seventh in division four 25 metre freestyle competitions by clocking 43.94 seconds.
Mazhar Mehmood fought bravely in the division ten 100m freestyle slots and finished fourth with a timing of 1:24.71.
Kanton Tatu of Finland was the winner of division 14 100m freestyle. As many as eight special athletes were drawn in this group.
An official of Pakistan’s contingent said that the healthy athletes programme was progressing well.
“The division process of special athletes completed today and from tomorrow morning the main round competitions will commence at various venues,” the official said in a news release. The 78-member Pakistan’s contingent is participating in the spectacle in nine disciplines.
