LAHORE Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Senator Sirajul Haq has said that government is responsible for providing medical cover to the citizens but all the governments so far failed to fulfil this responsibility. Talking to media during a visit to Al-Khidmat Mansoora Teaching Hospital Monday, Sirajul Haq said on one hand, billions were spent from public exchequer on the medical facilities to the cabinet ministers and advisers while on the other hand, government hospitals and health department remained neglected. He reiterated that Jamaat-e-Islami, after coming to power, would provide free-of-cost treatment to the patients of five major diseases. He said thousands of people were falling victim to epidemics due to heavy rains and floods but the government had not made any special arrangements to meet the situation. He said the treatment of heart, cancer and hepatitis patients was so costly that the poor could not even think of their treatment. He went round the emergency, surgical and medical wards of the hospital and the laboratory and inquired after the health of patients. Meanwhile, Sirajul Haq strongly condemned the desecration of Masjid-e-Aqsa by Israeli army and police and their brutal treatment to the people including women offering prayers there. He said no religion in the world allowed desecration of worship places but Israeli army enjoying the support of US, the self-styled champion of human rights, had been doing that repeatedly. The Zionists had been occupying Palestine for the last 50 years but the world community had shut its eyes to the situation in Palestine and Kashmir while the Zionists and the Indian Hindus were free to perpetrate brutalities on the Muslims in Palestine and Kashmir. Earlier, Sirajul Haq went to Okara to lead the funeral prayers of Haroon Saleem, brother of senior journalist Junaid Saleem, who was killed in Karachi on previous day during a robbery. He condemned the brutal murder of Haroon Saleem and demanded the Sindh government to immediately arrest the killers and award them deterrent punishment. He expressed condolences with the bereaved family.
