PESHAWAR: The Awami National Party (ANP) has urged the federal and provincial governments to sit together and assess the losses caused by heavy rains and flash floods in Chitral district and announce a comprehensive relief package for the affected people. Former chief minister and provincial president of ANP Ameer Haider Hoti and central Secretary General Mian Iftikhar Hussain through separate statements expressed their shock and concern over the damages caused by floods in the valley. They criticised the provincial government for not taking prompt measures to provide relief to those affected by rains and floods. However, they lauded the role played by the army to rescue the stranded people and shift them to safer places. The ANP leadership directed the party’s local organisations to play their role in mitigating the sufferings of the affected people. A similar appeal was made to the non-governmental organizations. They said that the authorities concerned should be put on high alert in view of the forecast of more rains in the province.
