LAHORE: Chairman of Pakistan Awami Tehreek (PAT) Dr. Tahirul Qadri has expressed his grief over loss of life and property due to rain and flash floods in South Punjab. But, he said, at the
same time corruption of the government has spread like floods all over the
country and this flood is a great burden on the country and until this is checked the country will not be able to move forward.
Talking to his followers he said that the farmers of South Punjab are the worst affected and big corruption is going to be made in the name of making of protective bunds and other measures to minimise the devastation of the floods.
He said that government officials are minting billions from such projects and are practically doing nothing for the safety of people. He said that if a foreign company is allowed to inspect the so-called projects undertaken by government officials, its corruption would be exposed.
He said every year the influential families drown the poor farmers of South Punjab, only to protect their own property. The poor farmers have can appeal only to Almighty Allah. He said the real face of the rulers be seen from the 2010 Flood Commission report of Justice Mansoor Ali Shah that held the government of Punjab CM Shahbaz Sharif responsible for all the deaths and devastation.
He said that all the officials that were named as the persons responsible have been awarded with lucrative posts in the Punjab Government, thus making a mockery of the justice system of the country just like they made a joke of the Model Town Commission report.
Dr. Tahirul Qadri said that every year the rulers and their cronies just visit the flood affected areas and get pictures taken and make false promises and come back. He recalled that during his visit to Rangpur, Muzaffarghar the CM went announced making of a protective Bund and to this day not a single brick has been put in place for the making of that Bund.
Dr. Tahirul Qadri said that the rulers have left the poor farmers of Layyah, Dera Ghazi Khan, Rajanpur and Muzaffarghar at the mercy of nature. The PAT chief demanded an audit of all the donations given to the Punjab government in the last ten years in the name of flood rehabilitation.
