A vitally important route to Azad Kashmir, Murree and other areas is always clogged up due to a phenomenal increase in the population of Bhara Kahu and traffic coming from Islamabad, Rawalpindi and from the rest of the country. The ill-thought-out blocking of the Athal Chowk creates an even worse traffic mess.
A few years ago the government had started extending the much-needed Margalla Road that would have connected it to a point near the Murree Toll Tax just past the Bhara Kahu town. If completed this would greatly relieve a lot of pressure on Bhara Kahu and be a most welcome facility to the traffic coming from Islamabad and the Peshawar Road. A flyover at Bhara Kahu would help traffic coming from Rawalpindi and the rest of Punjab. A big roundabout at Athal Chowk would be a great gift for the people of Bhara Kahu.

This refers to the letters, ‘The Bara Kahu bridge’ (June 22) by B A Malik and Maryam Ahmed Malik. After working in the federal capital it is a nightmarish encounter for the people of Bhara Kahu to return home in the evening. Two kilometres ahead of this town traffic gets choked and becomes a free for all as the traffic police appear helpless in managing traffic.
The writer has rightly appealed to the prime minister to look into this very serious issue and, as promised by him earlier, ensure the construction of an overhead bridge. Even Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan had promised this in a live press conference. If the bigwigs of this government keep their promises also it will prove the fact that the government is equally concerned about less developed areas.
