SWABI: A flood has played havoc in different areas of the district and cattle in many areas have perished but no loss of human life was reported, said officials of the district administration on Friday.
However, weather turned pleasant with rainfall in Ramazan and more rain has been forecast. The torrential rain, which started before dawn, continued unabated for hours, causing high flood in Badri Khwar (nullah).
The floodwater destroyed the cattle farms and many were washed away by the flood while the farmers were helplessly looking on. “I have lost 38 cattle, majority of them were buffaloes, worth about Rs4 million,” said Aman Khan of Aman Kot village. The cattle owners said it was a miracle that they survived. In Karnal Sher Khan village, about 15 shops in the Banzari area and some houses had also been destroyed by the floodwater.
Traders said they had lost valuables worth millions of rupees. The floodwater entered houses near Shewa Adda Bridge, and some people immediately left their homes while others climbed roofs of their homes, waiting for the floodwaters to recede. The victims said that their foodstuff and all other valuables had been ruined by the floodwater. In Ismaila and Adina towns, the floodwater blocked Swabi-Jehangira road for several hours and the transporters had no option but to wait for the receding of the flood.
Meanwhile, officials of the district administration visited the affected areas and the officials of the Revenue Department were asked to collect information about the damage caused by the flood. The government would take action to assist the flood victims in the light of that report.
