LAHORE: Over 1,150 vehicles in Lahore are operating with illegal LPG cylinders, the fitness of which due to being illegal does not fall under any regulatory framework because they are not registered.
Lahore Transport Company has a mandate to enforce, plan and regulate all kinds of public transports that gives strong impetus for the provision of affordable, safe and comfortable transport facilities to the commuters.
The enforcement department would strenuously ensure that the personnel of enforcement wing without any discrimination proceed against those found in overcharging of public transport fares and using illegal LPG cylinders in public service vehicles. It is also directed that more efforts needed and enforcement department of LTC takes no pressure of any kind while takes action as per the law.
This was stated by Chief Executive Officer LTC Khawaja Haider Latif while chairing a meeting to review the overcharging of public transport fares and illegally installed LPG cylinders in wagons and rickshaws in the city at LTC headquarters, here Tuesday.
He was briefed by the enforcement department that special teams were constituted under the supervision of Motor Mobile Patrolling Inspectors in various zones of Lahore and in the month of June, 18,339 public transport vehicles had been checked, while 1,181 were challaned on overcharging and 1,164 vehicles fined for having illegal LPG cylinders while an amount of Rs1.2 million had been deposited in the kitty of the Punjab government. Similarly, 23 public transport vehicles impounded on overcharging and 63 Public transport vehicles using illegal LPG cylinders impounded in various parts of the city including Chauburji, Muslim Town, Johar Town, Chowki Raja Market, Chungi Amar Sadhu, Mughalpura, Bhatti Chowk and Nawab Town.
