Dying hockey

Our hockey team touched its lowest level when for the first time we failed to qualify for the Olympics. What a humiliation for a team that topped international events in the past. Our leadership is mainly responsible for this debacle. Favouritism and cronyism have greatly contributed towards this national humiliation.

Our hockey team touched its lowest level when for the first time we failed to qualify for the Olympics. What a humiliation for a team that topped international events in the past. Our leadership is mainly responsible for this debacle. Favouritism and cronyism have greatly contributed towards this national humiliation. For the last couple of years it was evident that hockey is in troubled waters.
The PM, who is the patron-in-chief of Pakistan hockey, needs to take a serious view of the grim situation, overhaul the PHF and put those at the top who really deserve the post. Adequate funds with proper accountability should be made available to the PHF. Hockey needs to be organised right from the school levels. Adequate playing facilities at educational institutions should be ensured. Organisations like PIA and commercial banks should also induct potential hockey players. The revival of hockey is an arduous task that can be achieved through tough and thoughtful measures.
