Operation against top DG Khan gangster fails
From Hasnain Qaisrani
DERA GHAZI KHAN: The two-day long operation against one of the most wanted gangs ended unsuccessfully as a large police contingent from Dera Ghazi Khan and Muzaffargarh equipped with armoured personnel carriers, motor boats and sophisticated weapons returned to their respective stations.
However, the district police chief claimed that the five square kilometre area had been cleared with two members of the gang injured but they could not be arrested.
There have been reports that the ringleader, Aziz Jarwar alias Aziza Jarwar, had left the crime world some five years ago and since then no new case is be lodged against him. He has also left the native area of Shah Saddar Din and the adjoining river belt of Indus that remained his hideout for the several years.
A murder case was registered against Aziz and his accomplice Diwaya Khosa some 15 years ago in which both were arrested and sent to the central jail but later on released on bail.
After a couple of years, the younger brother of Aziz was allegedly gunned down by Diwaya and his brothers over a petty issue at Sabzi Mandi, Shah Saddar Din.
To take revenge, the stepbrother of Aziz chased Diwaya and his brothers while they were going to attend a local court in that murder case and killed the three near Jhook Yar Shah Morr (crossing) located on Indus Highway. The accused later fled to Dubai where he died a natural death.
Aziz was declared a proclaimed offender after the murder of two policemen near Sinawan. One of his accomplices Rasheed alias Sheeda Pistol - resident of Daira Din Panah - was also killed in that encounter. After the incident, Aziz fled away and was missing from the native area where he had ruled over 20 years.
One factor which still makes him famous in the area is that he never committed a crime in his native area and has been very caring for the local community. Actually, his presence made other dacoits and gangsters avoid committing crime in the area. Faqeerabad is a small village near Shah Saddar Din town, some 30 kilometres from DG Khan in the North, from where Aziz belongs to by birth.
A source told The News that the locals gave donations when the marriages of Aziz’ daughters.
Shah Saddar Din and the surrounding areas have been crime-free since Aziz joined the crime world as he has been working as the shield.
Some sources believe that he is willing to surrender before the police but had been avoiding to do so due to the fear of being killed in encounter. But the stance could not be verified officially by the police.
A vast belt of River Indus passes through the centre of Dera Ghazi Khan and Muzaffargarh districts, while most of it is inaccessible as there are no roads.
Such an area is considered to be a heaven for criminals and their associated gangs given that there is almost no police network. On the other hand, the riverine checkposts established some years earlier have poor strength of the police and those too were set up far away from the sensitive locations.
