LAHORE Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif presided over a meeting here Friday which reviewed progress on 1,320 megawatt coal power project in Sahiwal. Federal Minister for Railways Khawaja Saad Rafique also attended the meeting. Addressing the meeting, Shahbaz Sharif said that government was taking steps for overcoming power shortage. He said the projects of generating energy through coal, wind, hydel, solar and other sources were being forwarded speedily. He said two coal power projects of 660 megawatt each were being set up in Sahiwal and a total of 1,320 megawatt electricity would be generated from these projects. He said the initial design of Sahiwal coal power project had been prepared and all matters regarding transportation of coal from Karachi to Sahiwal settled with railway authorities. He said the project would be implemented transparently by ensuring high speed and quality. He said the Punjab government had decided to impart training to Pakistani youth in Thermal engineering sector in China. He said he would review the progress of Sahiwal coal power project after every 15 days. Cuban team: Shahbaz Sharif has said that improvement of public health facilities is included in our priorities and all-out resources are being utilised for this purpose. He said that implementation of health reforms was leaving a positive impact on the uplift of health sector. He said that Cuba had achieved marvellous success in the public health sector due to hard work and expertise and the Punjab government wanted to benefit from expertise of Cuba in health sector. He expressed these views while talking to a delegation of Cuban experts led by Cuban Ambassador Jesus Zenen Buergo Concepcion which called on him, here Friday. The chief minister said Cuba had proved its worth in health sector throughout the world. He said the Punjab government was ready to benefit from Cuban performance and expertise regarding public health. He said the Punjab government would benefit from Cuba model for the improvement of public health within its resources. He said experts from Cuba should evolve a practicable and durable model for bringing improvement in health sector of Punjab. He said that in the light of final recommendations, the scope of feasible model could be expanded throughout Punjab. Cuban experts said the Punjab government was determined to improve health sector and they would promote cooperation with the Punjab government in health sector. welfare organisations: Shahbaz Sharif has said that service to ailing humanity is also a form of worship and those who are helping others will earn the blessings of Allah in this world and the world hereafter. He said Sundas Foundation was playing a commendable role regarding provision of healthy blood to Thalassaemia, Hemophilia and blood cancer patients. He said that government would continue to extend full cooperation to the organisations engaged in welfare activities. The chief minister expressed these views while talking to the executive body of Sundas Foundation who met him here Friday. Talking to the delegation, the chief minister said Sundas Foundation was rendering commendable services for saving the lives of thousands of children suffering from Thalassaemia, Hemophilia, Leukemia and other fatal diseases and government institutions would extend full cooperation to it in this noble cause. He said the Punjab government had launched Thalassaemia prevention programme and after 22 districts, its scope was being extended to the whole province. However, he said, there was a need for coordinated measures with collective efforts in this regard. He said Sundas Foundation and the institutions concerned should evolve a programme for prevention from Thalassaemia and the Punjab government was ready to extend all-out cooperation in this regard. Chairman Sundas Foundation Munnu Bhai and President Muhammad Yasin Khan while informing the chief minister about the performance of the organisation said Foundation was providing free medicines and treatment facilities to the deserving children suffering from Thalassaemia and healthy blood was provided to them.
