Islamabad Regular monsoon rains are expected to start from July 6 in most parts of the country, including Rawalpindi and Islamabad. According to the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD), the monsoon trough is likely to develop in a few days. It would activate the monsoon progression which would result in the onset of monsoon rains in Pakistan during first week of July. The first spell of regular monsoon rains will be confined to upper parts of the country, resulting in scattered rain-thundershowers in Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Gujranwala, Sargodha and Lahore, upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, including Malakand, Hazara, Peshawar and Kohat divisions, and Azad Jammu and Kashmir from July 6 to July 9. Some isolated heavy falls are also expected in Hazara, Rawalpindi, Islamabad, Gujranwala and Kashmir and during the spell. The PMD informed that scanty rains are predicted in plain areas of the country during the month of July and erratic rains during the current monsoon season embedded with few extreme events in the monsoon-prone areas of the country of upper parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Punjab and Azad Jammu and Kashmir. The current pre-monsoon rains in Punjab will subdue from Thursday (today). Hot and dry weather with humid conditions is expected in most parts of the country, including Rawalpindi and Islamabad, during next three to four days before the onset of regular monsoon. Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) Director Dr Muhammad Hanif told ‘The News’ that first regular monsoon spell would start from July 6. The first monsoon rain spell would continue till July 9, he said. He said that there will be normal rains during monsoon season. “But, there is fear of flood because of heavy rain spell in Punjab, including Potohar region of twin cities of Rawalpindi and Islamabad, during monsoon season,” he warned. He said that they have already informed the concerned authorities to adopt precautionary steps to control the situation
evolving due to floods. According to the Water and Sanitation Agency (Wasa), the dredging process of Nullah Leh and other big and small 'nullahs' has been completed.
